The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspected cattle rustler and recovered six cows allegedly stolen from a resident of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, saying the arrest followed a coordinated operation by police operatives and local security personnel.

According to the statement, the incident was reported on July 29, 2026, at the Bununu Divisional Police Headquarters by a resident of Nasarawa Village via Lim Ward, who alleged that six of his cows had been stolen from his residence in the early hours of the day.

The statement read in parts, “On 29th July, 2026, a report was received at Bununu Division from a male complainant, resident of Nasarawa Village via Lim Ward, that six of his cows were rustled by unknown persons at his residence in the early hours of the same date.

“Upon receipt of the report, a joint team of Police operatives attached to Bununu Division and Danga Security was immediately mobilised and dispatched to the area. While trailing the footprints of the stolen cattle toward the Dull axis, the team intensified search and surveillance efforts.”

Habib said the operation led to the arrest of one Musa Abdullahi, 20, who became a prime suspect during the investigation.

“In the course of the operation, one Musa Abdullahi, male, 20 years old, was reasonably suspected. The intelligence-led operation led to his prompt arrest, and he was taken into custody for interrogation,” the statement added.

According to the police, the suspect confessed to stealing the cattle during interrogation.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having rustled the said cows. Consequently, all six cows were recovered in his possession,” the statement maintained.

The police spokesman noted that the case was still under investigation and would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and prosecution.

“The case is currently under investigation at the Division and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Bauchi, for discreet investigation and prosecution upon completion,” the statement added.

The PPRO revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, while commending the swift response of the operatives and the collaboration with local security personnel, urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to enhance crime prevention and detection across the state.
