The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested members of a fraud syndicate and a suspect in a N10.5 million breach of trust case as part of major breakthroughs in its fight against crime across the state.
Arewa PUNCH gathered that this was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital on Tuesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.
According to the PPRO, detectives attached to Gumel Division uncovered a sophisticated fraud syndicate following a complaint on 6th July 2026 by one Ado Muhammad of Jobi, Maigatari LGA.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that fraudsters deceived the complainant’s wife, who resides in Saudi Arabia, by falsely presenting themselves as spiritual money-makers through WhatsApp,” Adam stated.
He said the victim was defrauded of ₦12,923,000.00 through multiple bank accounts after the suspects lured her online.
“Through painstaking investigation, police operatives tracked the WhatsApp number and bank accounts used in perpetrating the crime,” the PPRO said.
Also, the Jigawa police spokesperson confirmed that one Ismail Adam Abdullahi, 21, of Hayin Ojo, Bakin Dogo Quarters, Zaria, Kaduna State was arrested in connection with the fraud.
“The suspect reportedly confessed during interrogation. The case has been transferred to SCID Dutse for discreet investigation and prosecution,” he added.
Moreso, the PPRO disclosed details of another case involving alleged criminal breach of trust.
“On 5th July 2026, following a report received at Dutse Divisional Police Headquarters, detectives commenced an investigation into a case involving Hafsatu Usman of Dutse LGA,” Adam said.
He further explained that the suspect was entrusted with ₦10,500,000.00 but allegedly absconded with the money.
“Through intelligence gathering and technical investigation, the suspect’s phone was successfully tracked, leading to her arrest in Gombe State,” the PPRO stated.
According to him, the case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Dutse for further action.
In a related development, police in Kazaure Division arrested a suspected ATM card fraudster on 9th July 2026.

The police mouthpiece in Jigawa said the arrest followed a distress call from Access Bank Plc and led to the apprehension of Kassim Ali, 27, of Gyadi-Gyadi Quarters, Tarauni LGA, Kano State.
“The suspect allegedly tampered with a female customer’s ATM card and fraudulently withdrew money from her account,” he said.
He added that investigation revealed the suspect specialised in visiting banks with an accomplice who is currently at large.
“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 36 ATM cards belonging to various banks,” Adam highlighted.
The case, he said, has been transferred to SCID Dutse for comprehensive investigation and diligent prosecution.
The Command also recorded success in tackling violent crime.
“On 16th July 2026 at about 0030hrs, operatives attached to Gwaram Division responded to information that an unconscious man was lying in a pool of blood along New Gwaram–Kila Road,” the PPRO said.
Adam identified the victim as Abdullahi Garba, 22, of Falai Village, Gwaram LGA, who was attacked by two passengers with a hammer in an attempt to steal his motorcycle.
He said the suspects fled but abandoned the motorcycle alongside a locally made revolver pistol loaded with four live rounds and two expended shells after police pursuit.
“The victim was immediately evacuated to the hospital where he is currently responding to treatment, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” Adam explained.
Accordingly, the PPRO said all the arrests reflect the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and prompt response.
“These successes reflect the unwavering commitment of the officers and men of the Command to safeguarding lives and property,” he said, and urged residents to remain alert and support police efforts.
“I urge residents to remain vigilant, be wary of online fraudsters and ATM card scammers, promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station, and continue supporting the Command’s efforts to rid the state of criminal elements,” the PPRO concluded.
