Osun State Police Command on Sunday said it has apprehended five suspects over an attack on a Methodist Church located in the Fiwasaye Area of Osogbo.

The command, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the suspects were arrested at the scene of the crime.

Ojelabi said the suspects damaged a vehicle parked on the premises and the louvre blades on the window of the church.

The police also said a motorcycle was recovered from the scene, adding that the suspects arrested in connection with the incident included: Tajudeen Hassan,‎ Adewale Yusuf, ‎Kabiru Abdulsalam, Olanrewaju Abiodun and a female, Adewale Mujidat.

Stating further facts of the matter, the command said, “On 20th September 2026, at about 1040hrs, the Command received a distress call from a complainant at the Methodist Church Nigeria, reporting that some youths who were playing football on a fallow parcel of land beside the church had kicked the ball across into the church premises, resulting in the breaking of one of the louvre glass windows.

‎‎”Rather than showing remorse, the youths allegedly resorted to throwing stones into the church premises, causing further damage to additional louvre windows and the rear glass screen of a Mitsubishi vehicle belonging to one of the church members.”

‎Upon receipt of the distress call, the command said police operatives from Iludun Division swiftly responded and apprehended the suspects.

“One red-coloured Yamaha motorcycle, with registration number LRG 143 QE, was also recovered from the scene,” it further read.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and in accordance with the law.

The CP urged members of the public, particularly youths, to always exercise restraint and avoid actions capable of escalating minor disagreements into acts of violence or destruction of property.

‎The Command further assured members of the public that appropriate legal action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.

Earlier, The PUNCH reported that the Osun State Police Command warned against a planned protest allegedly linked to a group identified as the “Congress of Cultists”, said to be associated with the Neo-Black Movement, also known as Black Axe.

The command, in a statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, described the group as faceless and said intelligence indicated its alleged association with the cult group.

The police warned individuals or groups planning to cause chaos, disrupt public peace or engage in criminal activities to reconsider their actions.
